Our Approach to Sustainability
At Essencora, sustainability isn’t a buzzword—it’s a responsibility. We make hand-thrown vases, ceramic planters, and hand-finished lamps with careful attention to each step in our process. We’re a small team based in the U.S., and we know the choices we make have an impact. That’s why we’re honest about what we’re doing, what we’re still working on, and where we hope to go.
How We Make and Ship Our Products
Materials
We use high-quality stoneware and porcelain clay, sourced in the States whenever possible. Our glazes are lead-free, and we work with suppliers who are committed to reducing harmful additives. Every piece is made in small batches, which lets us waste as little as possible. Any leftover clay is collected and reused for new work.
Packaging
Our packaging is built from recycled cardboard and paper. We avoid plastics unless there’s no safe alternative for protecting a piece in transit. Everything is curbside recyclable, with minimal printing and dyes.
Supply & Transport
We buy supplies locally when we can—clay, glazes, tools, and shipping materials. This helps cut down on shipping emissions and supports local businesses. We ship only within the U.S. to reduce the carbon footprint of delivering our goods.
What We’re Working On
- Switching to 100% renewable energy in our studio by the end of next year
- Testing compostable alternatives for some protective wraps
- Partnering with suppliers who offer verified eco-certifications
- Exploring a take-back program for broken or end-of-life ceramics
No Greenwashing, Just Progress
Sustainability is a work in progress. We’re not perfect, and we don’t claim to have all the answers. We choose materials and methods that make sense for the environment and our business, and we’ll always be upfront about what we’re doing and where we fall short. If you have questions or ideas, we’d like to hear from you.
Thanks for supporting Essencora as we keep improving and aiming for better every day.
